Scholarship presented to a thriving CPASS student

Alyxis Harper, SEP undergraduate student, received the Women of WVU Enrichment Fund scholarship on May 27, 2016.

Originally from Ashburn, VA, Harper is currently pursuing a BS degree in sports and exercise psychology, while minoring in strength and conditioning. Harper will graduate in December of this year.

The Women of WVU Enrichment Fund scholarship was created in 2014 and is presented to one student annually. The group created this fund to help support women students at WVU in their desire to travel abroad, attend conferences, or  enhance their education.

On June 4, the Women of WVU program hosted a celebration event at the  WVU Art Museum. Harper highlighted her project and how she will use the scholarship.

Harper reflected on how  CPASS faculty have helped her gain success.

“My mentor, Dr. Giacobbi, has always been there for me when I stress out about things,” said Harper. “He has really pushed me to go outside my comfort zone.”

With a passion for fitness and living a healthy lifestyle, Harper has future plans of becoming a personal trainer for a gym or working as a wellness program director.

This CPASS student is recognized as goal oriented and driven. Her advice to future students is to “get involved in organizations on campus and go to as many sporting events as you can.”

Learning from her own experience, Harper added “If you ever need help, don’t be afraid to ask for it.”
