National leader to speak about physical inactivity and its impact on the health industry

An expert in exercise physiology, physical activity and fitness, Dr. Steven Blair will speak at West Virginia University about physical inactivity and why it poses a massive health risk.

Blair will present to WVU faculty and students on Wednesday, October 19 at 3 p.m. in room G-08 of the College and Physical Activities and Sport Sciences building. The presentation, titled “Physical Inactivity: The Biggest Public Health Problem of the 21st Century,” is free and open to the public.

Blair formerly served as a professor in the Departments of Exercise Science and Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Arnold School of Public Health, University of South Carolina. He is a Fellow in the American College of Epidemiology, Society for Behavioral Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American Heart Association and American Kinesiology Academy.

“We are very excited to have Dr. Blair speak at CPASS. He is one of the top physical activity epidemiologists in the world. Some of his work is the most widely cited in all of the exercise sciences,” explained Peter Giacobbi, Jr., associate professor, Sport and Exercise Psychology, CPASS.

Blair has published more than 700 papers and chapters in scientific publications and has more than 50,000 citations to his body of work. Blair is also a Senior Scientific Editor for the U.S. Surgeon General’s Report on Physical Activity and Health.
