The College of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences Dean’s Student Advisory Board has recently recognized Nick Davidson, sport management graduate student, as the most valuable board member for the month of January. Davidson currently serves as the programming chair for the board.
The programming committee seeks to increase cross-disciplinary communications and events within the college. As head of this committee, Davidson’s current focus is finding ways to get CPASS students involved with the college beyond the classroom.
Davidson explains how his role effects undergraduate students. “My job is to create opportunities for our young people within CPASS that will give them avenues to succeed within their desired fields,” Davidson said.
“WVU, and more specifically CPASS, each hold a very special place in my heart as they are the foundation that has developed me into the individual I am today. If I can provide an opportunity for kids trying to find their way at this institution, then I feel as though that any work put in has been well worth it,” he added.
Through his efforts and work alongside Dr. Tobin Richardson, teaching assistant professor, Davidson organized a CPASS Majors and Clubs Fair, held in late January 2017. The fair highlighted various student organizations and major opportunities within CPASS and educated students about the importance of out-of-classroom involvement.
Currently, Davidson is working with the board’s fundraising committee to organize a “Most Athletic Mountaineer” event, April 11, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at the Student Rec Center and fields. Open to all WVU students, the activity will allow participants to highlight athletic skills in a variety of sports. For a small entry fee, students will have a chance to win prizes such as gift cards and WVU memorabilia. All proceeds will support the senior CPASS student scholarship.
In the future, Davidson plans to develop programs to promote networking opportunities for CPASS students and their peers. He plans to earn his doctoral degree to work in an administrative role, developing programming for university students. “I feel as though that my work with the CPASS Dean's Student Advisory Board is an excellent avenue to begin building experience in student development/programs,” Davidson stated.
