CPASS graduate kicks his way to the Columbus Crew sales team

In the world of sports teams and major events, many people forget about the office jobs that surround the team and help ensure success.

Casey Hudson, 2018 Sports Management master’s graduate, found himself learning the the behind-the-scenes business of a major league soccer team, the Columbus Crew. Hudson is currently responsible inside sales and manages around 1,000 accounts.

“A normal day for an inside sales representative varies day-to-day. Most days consist of reaching out to my various contracts such as individuals, businesses and organizations through numerous channels,” explained Hudson.

Although his time with the team has been short, Hudson has found that the atmosphere around the office has helped him adjust. He describes his workplace as supportive and collaborative when it comes to finding different approaches on how to be effective in his role.

Hudson credits WVU for giving him many different skills that have helped him succeed in the work force.

“CPASS did a tremendous job of giving me confidence in my public speaking skills because of all the presentations assigned by professors. Public speaking is essential in the day-to-day life of most professionals. I wanted to pursue my master's degree at WVU because of how widely respected the program was. I also felt it could be my best opportunity because I could call on my previous connections made during undergrad,” said Hudson.

Even though Hudson’s degrees are in sports management, he believes that this position will help him eventually reach his dream job. His most memorable experience so far has been helping with Fan Appreciation Fest, where Hudson had to opportunity to escort excited fans to their favorite players on the Columbus Crew.
