New leadership announced for WVU Fitness Information Technology Publishing

Harvey, who will begin her new role in April 2021, says she plans to further expand the success of FiT’s textbooks, trade books and scholarly journals in the U.S and worldwide. “I am honored to follow the lead of Barb Dalton and founder Andy Ostrow. I will work toward increasing distribution and translation of our textbooks and journals to promote and advance cross-cultural scholarship in current and emerging areas of study in the sport sciences,” she said.

“I’m excited that Eileen is stepping into the role of director of Fitness Information Technology Publishing. Eileen has been a major part of the company’s success for many years. She is the perfect person to take the helm of the organization. I’m thrilled to work with her to continue strengthening the company, which is already a leading publisher in the sport sciences field,” Jack Watson, CPASS professor and dean, said.

“I would also like to thank Barb Dalton, who is retiring from this position, for her work to push FiT Publishing forward during the past 13 years, six as director. Barb stepped in to serve as director of the company during a particularly challenging time. She has helped bring stability to the company and increase sales,” Watson said.

Harvey is a writer/editor with more than 20 years of experience in book and journal publication, including academic textbooks, scholarly journals, and their related marketing and distribution. For the past five years, she has served at FiT Publishing as managing editor, working with Dalton, Kassi Roberts, writer/editor, and Wendy Lazzell, program coordinator, as well as authors, freelancers, student workers, interns and vendors, to publish textbooks and quarterly journals along with related online content in the sport sciences for academic and professional audiences.

Prior to FiT Publishing, Harvey wrote and edited promotional and marketing materials for behavioral science consultants, scientific and technical articles and fact sheets related to energy and environmental technologies. She has written general interest and feature articles for a variety of business, government and nonprofit organizations, as well as grants, bylaws, annual reports and promotional materials. She has experience in working with scientists, software engineers and other subject matter experts to develop software manuals, web-based tutorials and software help systems.

Harvey earned her B.A. in History, with a minor in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and completed coursework for an M.S. in Professional Writing at Towson University, where she worked with the publisher to produce a scholarly journal, Metropolitan Universities

“I consider myself a life-long learner and find that working in an academic setting is the perfect place to continue to learn and to use my skills and experience to their fullest potential. I have the good fortune to continue to work with such an excellent group of people within the college,” Harvey added.
