FiT update 2021

FiT Publishing has experienced some changes: Barbara Dalton retired as director in May 2021. She has had 25 years of service with West Virginia University, the last 13 with the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences and six of those years as director of FiT.

Former managing editor Eileen Harvey has moved into the director position while Kassi Roberts has assumed the managing editor role. FiT continues to pursue academic standards in publishing and strategic improvements set in motion by Barbara that Eileen is now striving to accomplish.

FiT Publishing offers Spanish translations of foundational textbooks to sport management students in Central and South American programs. This is the first stage of a desirable expansion into international markets. The translation of sport management textbooks is an exciting and ambitious goal intended to help attract and retain our top-notch authors, increase the reach of relevant sport science scholarship and increase the visibility of FiT Publishing, our College and WVU.

New releases include the fifth edition of “ Foundations of Sport Business Marketing,” by Brenda Pitts, the second edition of “Expert Approaches to Sport Psychology: Applied Theories of Performance Excellence,” edited by Mark W. Aoyagi and Artur Poczwardowski, as well as new titles “Governance of Sport: Aspects and Insights” by Darlene A. Kluka, Anneliese E. Goslin, Noah Yang Hsu and “ Get Fit Training Manual: Creating an Inclusive Culture of Health for People with Disabilities," edited by Joseph Galasso and Adeola Sonaike.

Adapting through the challenges of the past year, FiT published the sport and exercise psychology textbooks “ Coaching for the Inner Edge,” 2nd edition, by author and professor Robin S. Vealey, and “ Racism in College Athletics ” 4th edition, edited by CPASS Dean Emeritus Dana Brooks and Ronald Althouse. Foundational sport management textbooks released recently include “ Ethics and Morality in Sport Management,” 4th edition, by Joy T. DeSensi and Danny Rosenberg and “Media Relations in Sport,” 5th edition, by Craig Esherick, Phil Caskey and Brad Schultz.

In addition, FiT continued publication of two long-running, peer-reviewed quarterly journals: International Journal of Sport Finance (IJSF) and Sport Marketing Quarterly (SMQ).
